Imagination and cooperation are essential parts of a frame dealer's stock in trade.  This was Joseph Grippi's ethos for nearly 8 yrs at 200 East 59th st NYC where he constructed unique frames during this time he built up an impressive clientele including distinguished collectors and the country's foremost galleries and museums. He experimented and worked on shortcuts and techniques to produce quality frames saving money for his clients.  He freely worked with competitors sharing his ingenuity and details.   More is gained by the individual framer in sharing customers and ideas with his competitors than by regarding other dealers as a threatening menace.   Joseph Grippi's ingenuity in creating frames not found on the market has the added stimulus of his background as an artist and sculptor.  He was visiting a gallery where a group of his paintings were hung, when a man nearby remarked about the frames.  He told him he made them.  The man was Dr. Karl Lilienfeld of the Lilienfeld Galleries.  He offered to buy as many frames as he would make.  The demand for his work grew.   He felt strongly that framed reproductions framed like originals will look like originals, emphasizing the value of the work and giving it dignity.  At the time there was a new trend toward driftwood and Mr Grippi was one of the first framers to apply driftwood tones to picture frames.  His Gallery G represented artists that include James Kearns, Aubrey Schwartz, Lee Bontecou, Sidney Simon, Peter Paone, Daniel Newman, Henry Niese, George Mueller, Will Barnett and others.  He was a master printer of creative and experimental serigraphs commissioned editions include; Paul Burlin, GLK Morris, Paul Jenkins, Al Loving, George Mueller, John Urbain, Ray Parker, Frank Roth, Sven Lukin, Adolph Gottlieb, Henry Koehler, Angelo Savelli, Anni Albers, Andy Warhol and others.  Institutional Collections include; Penn State University, Philip Morris Collection, Atlantic Richfield, Mobil Oil, Corporation, Manufacturers Hanover Trust.  After my fathers passing in 2001 i began to organize his vast collection of fine prints and other antiques from his World.   After my fathers passing in 2001 i began to organize his vast collection of fine prints and other antiques from his World.
